Smoke From Aspen Fire Blankets Area

EASTERN MADERA COUNTY – Residents in the mountain area woke to the smell of smoke, and a haze blanketing everything as far away as Coarsegold. The source of the smoke is the Aspen Fire, burning in the Kaiser Peak area between Mammoth Pool and Huntington Lake, on the east side of the San Joaquin River canyon.

Lightning Sparks Several Fires

MADERA COUNTY – Several lightning strikes in the mountain area last night kept firefighters busy tracking down small blazes. The first call came in just after 7 p.m. on Monday, July 22, for a fire along Road 600 near Grub Gulch. There were two small fires in the area that crews had handled in short order.

Update On Recent Fire Calls

MADERA COUNTY – Firefighters have responded to several calls in the past week, with the first on Road 400 at Lilley Mountain Road. On Thursday afternoon, July 11, crews responded to a fire on Road 400 that began burning up Lilley Mountain. Initially, several structures were threatened, but with two tanker drops delivered very quickly, none were lost.

Crews Handle Four Fires In One Day

MADERA COUNTY – Firefighters were busy on Thursday, June 20, with four small fires that were all quickly extinguished, one by a passing motorist. Crews were first called out to a vehicle fire on Deadwood, on Highway 41 just south of Oakhurst. Engines then responded to a small fire on Road 415 near Sesame Street.
