Cars Shine At Inaugural Bass Lake Car Show

BASS LAKE – Bass Lake was the center of car activity Saturday for the inaugural Bass Lake Hot Rod and Classic Car Show, sponsored by the Bass Lake Chamber of Commerce and Budweiser.

About 55 cars were on display throughout The Pines Village, a great turnout for a first year event according to Lanie Suderman who put the show together.

“We’re really happy with the turnout, especially for a first year event. We had a lot of great cars on display and people had a good time,” she said.

Ahwahnee resident Tom Robello took home multiple awards for his 1932 Ford Roadster, including Best Hot Rod and Best in Show.

Robello had actually tied Mariposa resident Tom Armstrong and his 1955 Chevy Bel Air for the Best in Show honors after the judges tabulated the scoring. The final decision was made by the crowd after each owner fired up his car to make some noise.

“It was a fun way to find our overall winner, the crowd really got into it, ” said Suderman.

The crowd also got in to the spirit of the event, which between registration and raffle tickets raised about $1700 for the Children’s Museum of the Sierra.

“We’re incredibly appreciative to Lanie and the Bass Lake Chamber of Commerce as well as all the entrants. This is a huge help for the museum,” said Jarrod Lyman, President of the museum’s board of directors.
