Car Crashes At Serpa Canyon, Driver Bails

COARSEGOLD — CHP responding to reports of a crash on Highway 41 near Serpa Canyon last night around 11:30 p.m., arrived on scene to find a Honda Accord on its roof right in the middle of the roadway, blocking both lanes. However, there was no one in the vehicle, and nobody around who may have been driving.

A passing motorist stopped to investigate and offer any assistance, but didn’t find anyone in or near the car.

A call by CHP to Madera County Sheriff’s Dispatch turned up no reports of any suspicious pedestrians in the area. A tow truck was dispatched and CHP shoved the wreck out of the roadway.

Investigating officers quickly learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen by a Fresno woman early in March. That report by Fresno P.D. listed a possible suspect, and though CHP and Sheriff’s deputies attempted to locate that individual, the address given on the report, just north of Oakhurst, turned out to be erroneous.

The driver who crashed and then abandoned the Honda in the middle of the road has not been located.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Oakhurst Area CHP Office at 559-658-6590.
