Camarena Health Offering Expanded Walk-In Weekend and Evening Hours, Urgent Care Clinic ‘Ready to Go’

OAKHURST — Camarena Health’s Oakhurst clinic is now offering new walk-in weekend and evening hours. And according to the Madera-based community health center’s chief executive officer, Camarena’s brand new urgent care clinic should be open very soon.

Camarena Health’s new Oakhurst urgent care clinic should be open soon

Paulo Soares, Camerena CEO, said his organization is awaiting final approval from state licensing agencies before opening the urgent care clinic, which is located adjacent to the Oakhurst heath center at 49169 Road 426.

The health center is currently open for appointments on Mondays from 7:15 a.m. to 630 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 6 p.m.

New walk-in hours are now offered Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Services provided at the health center include medical, pediatrics, behavioral health, health education and lab services.

The new urgent care clinic, which will also be offering x-ray services, is “ready to go,” Soares said. “Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of the State in issuing us a license to open. We’d hoped to have already received it but this is taking much longer than usual.”

Soares said the new urgent care clinic in Oakhurst’s “proposed” hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Camarena, which remodeled the old Sierra Star building to create the new urgent care clinic, accepts all types of insurance, including Medi-Cal and Medicare — and as a so-called FQHC or federally qualified health center, treats all patients, regardless of their insurance coverage or ability to pay.

The nonprofit currently operates 12 clinics throughout Madera County, including medical and dental locations in Oakhurst, Coarsegold, Madera and Chowchilla.
