Caltrans Reopens Highway 41

MADERA COUNTY — Caltrans and CHP are still on the scene of a rockslide on Highway 41 between Highway 41 and Road 200, working to get the roadway reopened.

The road was closed yesterday just before noon after several huge boulders crashed down into the northbound lane, causing one accident and forcing a detour.

The tentative time for reopening will be 7 p.m. this evening, however that could change if conditions don’t ensure the safety of the traveling public.

Geologists are currently on scene, and Caltrans has removed all the loose rocks and stabilized the hillside. They are working to clean the debris from the roadway, and have a sweeper working to complete that task. They are also patching potholes.

We will update if conditions change.
