Cal Fire To Conduct Training Burn Near Yaqui Gulch

MARIPOSA – The Cal Fire Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit (MMU) will be conducting a vegetation management training burn on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 24 and 25, on the Long Ranch located on Old Highway near Yaqui Gulch.

The training will consist of burning four sections of annual grass, oak woodland and sparse brush, totaling about 95 acres and will take place between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day.

Smoke will be visible throughout the day from many locations throughout Mariposa County.

The purpose of the burn is to train firefighting personnel in firing strategies and tactics. The management fire will also be used to reduced noxious weeds and reduce fuel loading and ladder fuels and promote native grasses.
