Cal Fire Conducts Live Fire Training At Eastman Lake

MARIPOSA – Smoke will be visible this week as the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) conducts a live fire training exercise at Eastman Lake.

The training is in cooperation with Madera County Fire and Army Corp of Engineers, and will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 15 and 16.

If conditions are conducive, approximately 180 acres of grass and oak understory will be burned from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day.

Firefighters will be training on tactics and strategies of fire suppression, hand line construction and perimeter control of wildland firefighting.

This training will utilize multiple resources consisting of fire engines, crews, bulldozers and water tenders.

Eastman Lake will still be open to the public for day use and recreating, however there will be limited access to the west side with some traffic control points.
