Cajun-Creole Fest Saturday

OAKHURST – Community members looking for a bit of the bayou may want to attend the 19th Annual Oakhurst Sierra Sunrise Rotary Cajun-Creole Fest, this Saturday, Mar. 29. The down-to-earth exciment begins at 6 p.m. and it all takes place, not in Louisiana, but at the Oakhurst Community Center.

Guests can look forward to “All-U-Can-Eat Shrimp, Ribs, Dirty Rice, Maque Choux Corn and Bread Pudding.” There’s also a no-host bar, live auction and raffle. The raffle boasts limited ticket allowances for increased chance at the grand prize Craftsman Riding Lawn Mower.

Rotary InternationalThe Sierra Sunrise Rotary service group has been in operation for 27 years and currently has 29 members. The Cajun-Creole Fest is one of the nonprofit organization’s biggest fundraisers.

Funds raised at Sunrise Rotary events are used for high school scholarships, elementary school “Student of the Month” awards, contributions to the Boys & Girls Club of Oakhurst, Manna House, the Oakhurst Community Center and other local and international projects. The organization has contributed to digging wells to provide clean water in Uganda and Haiti.
