Bridge Fire Update 7 PM Saturday

MARIPOSA COUNTY – It was a day of successes on the Bridge Fire today, with crews holding it at 300 acres, and achieving 60% containment.

Some 700 structures were threatened at the height of the fire, and not one was lost. As of 7 p.m. this evening, the evacuation order is lifted for residents living in the Ponderosa Basin area with the exception of residents along the dirt road section of Harris Road.

The evacuation order for the dirt section on Harris Road will remain in effect due to continued suppression activity in the area. Residents will be required to show ID; the area is still closed to the public.

There are currently 746 personnel assigned to the incidents; 91 engines, 22 fire crews and 22 dozers.

Firefighters will continue to closely monitor all areas outside the control lines for any new spot fires. The crews will continue mopping up and looking for hot spots within the containment lines. Interior portions of the fire will continue to burn and may produce smoke.

Residents are directed to use Chowchilla Mountain Road for access, and should remain cautious of fire personnel and equipment working in the area.

Highway 49 reopened to two-way traffic at noon today.

For recorded information from the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office, residents can call 209-966-1133.
