Update: Suspect in Custody Following ‘Barricade Situation’

OAKHURST — A suspect has been taken into custody after he barricaded himself inside an apartment in the 48900 block of River Park Road.

According to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office, just after 5:30 p.m. Thursday, MCSO deputies responded to a domestic violence call at the River Park Apartments in Oakhurst.

Edward “Tom” Becker, 26, of Oakhurst, reportedly had assaulted a female victim. As deputies arrived, he barricaded himself within the apartment, armed with a machete.

Crisis negotiators along with the Quick Response Team and a K-9 deputy arrived shortly after the barricade situation unfolded.

After approximately two hours, Becker was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Madera County Jail on charges of corporal injury to spouse and resist/obstruct/delay of a peace officer.

The female victim received visible injuries but declined medical attention, according to authorities.

“The Madera County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind our community members to seek support if you are the victim of domestic violence or abuse,” said Deputy Sarah Jackson, MCSO public information officer.
