Bosnians Learn About U.S. National Parks

On May 17, Amarildo Mulić welcomed visitors to Una National Park in northwestern Bosnia I Herzegovina for the European Day of Parks.

They had returned only a few days earlier from a two week international study tour of Yosemite and Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Forest & Monument.

Director Mulic and Assistant Director Haris Hadzihajdarevic visited local protected areas in California as well as in Nevada, Arizona and Utah to enhance their understanding and to see, first hand, the best management practices for natural and cultural resources found in in the US.

The purpose was for them to learn about and adapt the useful practices they found to the management of Una National Park.

Director Amarildo Mulić welcoming visitors to Una National Park in Bosnia I Herzegovina for the European Day of Parks May 17 2015 - photo by Michael OlwylerDuring their study tour Mulić and Hadzihajdarevic visited the Bass Lake/North Fork area and traveled to Yosemite and Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park, the Sequoia National Forest & Monument, Sierra National Forest and local BLM areas to meet with several renowned managers. Discussions between the managers ranged from interpretation and visitor service and protection to planning, infrastructure construction and maintenance, and search and rescue practices.

North Fork resident Michael Olwyler acted as the coordinator, liaison, guide, and travel agent, planning the schedule, and contacting mangers at the various protected areas for the two Bosnians.

Thru learning about and seeing the American standards of natural and cultural resource management, Una National Park intends achieve the standards of protected area management recognized around the world.
