Bomb Squad Detonates Dynamite

MARIPOSA COUNTY – The Merced Police Department Bomb Unit was called to a scene in the Pendola Gardens area on Thursday, Mar. 13, when law enforcement received a report from a citizen about a box of possible explosive materials.

The report was made at approximatly 8:45 a.m. Thursday morning, and the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office responded to investigate.

Merced Police Department Bomb Unit gear - photo Mariposa County SheriffThe materials were identified as possibly 10 or more sticks of dynamite. The Merced Police Department Bomb Unit was then notified along with Mariposa County Fire, Mercy Ambulance and the Mariposa County Roads Department.

At about noon, the dynamite was detonated without incident. There is no indication at this point that the explosives were placed in the area in order to do any damage. The investigation is ongoing.

Pendola Gardens is located just west of Highway 49 between Mariposa and Bear Valley.
