Big Rig Crash Blocks Highway 41

OAKHURST – A tractor-trailer rig that hit the embankment on Deadwood this morning caused traffic back-up for over four hours.

Kevin Schroeder, 30, of Sacramento, was southbound out of Oakhurst at 6:35 a.m. in a Freightliner pulling a 53-foot trailer when, for unknown reasons, he struck the embankment on the right side of the road. The tractor-trailer came to rest blocking the southbound lane. Investigating officers got conflicting reports as to just what caused the crash, according to CHP at the scene.

One lane traffic control was put in place and the road was closed down completely for about a half an hour as tow trucks got both units loaded for transport. The driver was uninjured and there was no spillage onto the roadway from the Nor-Cal Produce trailer.

One lane traffic control remains in place as of 10:30 a.m., with an estimate to open completely by 11:00.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
