Bernie McGoldrick | Candidate for Yosemite Unified School Board

I am running for Area 3 of the Yosemite Unified School Board and would very much appreciate your support.  I am dedicated to creating opportunities for all students and want to help lead our district through the many challenges we face.

I believe I am well qualified to do the work of a school board member.  I have been self-employed as an attorney for 22 years, which has taught me a great deal about focusing on details and planning for the future.  My law practice emphasizes business and estate transactions, so hardly a day goes by that I am not preparing financial documents and advising local businesses on their most important decisions.  There are an ever-increasing number of laws school boards must follow–navigating the law is my profession.

I strive to be of service to other people.  I am currently a member of the Oakhurst Sierra “Noon” Rotary board of directors, and am a past-president of the Oakhurst Sierra Sunrise Rotary Club.  As a Rotarian, I have volunteered countless hours in the community and helped raise substantial sums of money for local causes, including all area schools.  I have served for 15 years on the YHS Scholarship Foundation board of directors, where we are entrusted with management of the money that has been donated by members of the community for high school scholarships.  The YHS Mock Trial team is one of the high school’s most successful teams and I am proud to have been the attorney coach for the last 7 years; we regularly make it to the state competition.  I have also coached elementary age kids in AAU basketball, which is a joy.

I believe I am in tune with the needs of our community.  I was raised in Oakhurst, attending school here K-12th grade, graduating from YHS in 1988.  Both my parents were educators.  I returned to Oakhurst in 2001 with my wife to raise our family.  I have two daughters who came through mountain schools and are now attending university.  My son is a 7th grader at OCI and will attend YHS.  I have seen first-hand what wonderful kids we have in the mountains, and how many dedicated teachers, staff and administrators work in the district.  We have many reasons to feel hopeful about the future.  Our kids are that future and are counting on us to create opportunities for them—I’m ready to help!
