“There is no doubt that our providers and staff are the heart of Valley Children’s, and that their ability to provide exceptional care to our children is matched by our commitment to take exceptional care of our teams and their own families,” says Valley Children’s Healthcare President and CEO Todd Suntrapak. “We have made that commitment to our employees every day – uninterrupted – since we opened our doors 70 years ago. In the last few years alone, we established an urgent care clinic for our team and their extended families, provided enhanced mental health services to our teams and supported our staff who lost their homes during the recent wildfires or whose lives were disrupted by COVID-19. Throughout the pandemic, the safety of our team was our top priority. We ensured that our frontline clinical staff had access to adequate supplies of all levels of personal protective equipment (PPE), including N95 masks, and that they never had to reuse the equipment when caring for patients. We did not lay off a single employee, funded our annual salary adjustments and continued with our retirement plan contributions so that once the pandemic abated, we would have our full team here to care for them, just like always. We are grateful for Becker’s recognition of our efforts.”

With more than 6,000 hospitals and health systems across the country, Valley Children’s is one of only seven children’s hospitals on the list, which also includes some of the country’s leading healthcare institutions, including Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins Medicine and Mayo Clinic.

Becker’s has published a version of this list since 2011. The featured organizations offer benefits and opportunities for employees to build successful careers above and beyond the average healthcare provider or company. They also encourage professional development and promote leadership from within. Many members of the list offer unique wellness and personal benefits to ensure employees strike a positive work-life balance, as well as employee recognition programs to highlight their accomplishments. This year, Becker’s also took community impact into account, recognizing organizations with a mission of volunteerism and giving back.

Becker’s developed this list based on nominations and editorial research. You can view the full list here. Organizations are published in alphabetical order.

Valley Children’s employs more than 3,500 staff members, partners with more than 670 physicians and has 425 volunteers within the network, the largest pediatric healthcare system between Los Angeles and San Francisco.
