Battle Of The Badges Softball Tourney At YHS

OAKHURST — Don’t miss the “pitched battle” already heating up ahead of this Saturday’s Battle of the Badges Slow Pitch Softball Tournament at Yosemite High School.

The community is invited to enjoy a day of friendly but fierce competition and cheer on their favorite teams, while helping to raise much-needed funds for the Lady Badgers softball teams.

This family-oriented event is scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 22 at the YHS softball fields. Competition starts at 9 a.m., and goes until the last team standing claims victory. Admission is free, and refreshments will be available for purchase.

The tournament in in it’s fourth year, but with a name change. Instead of Guns vs. Hoses, it is now The Battle of the Badges.

Hosted by the Yosemite Badgers Softball Boosters, this fundraiser will benefit the YHS Softball program.

“Our girls are working hard, showing much improvement this year, but we want our program to continue to grow,” says Beth Atkins, Varsity Team Mom and Booster Club member. “We need adequate equipment and improved fields, among other things, and this fundraiser will help that happen.”

This year there are six teams playing a double elimination format. Teams include last year’s champions the Fresno Police Department, and runners-up Madera SWAT. Also participating is past winner Oakhurst CHP, plus a Madera Sheriff’s Office/Police Department team and two YHS alumni teams.

Games begin at 9 a.m. sharp, with the championship game scheduled for 4:30 p.m., unless, by technicality, they have to play each other twice.

This is a fun, family oriented event, and is free to the public. Food and limited edition shirts will be available for purchase.
