Bass Lake Yosemite Triathlon This Saturday

BASS LAKE –  The 6th Annual Bass Lake Classic Triathlon is Saturday, June 4, at the Pines Village and if you’re participating, volunteering, cheering from the sidelines or just passing through the area during the race, here are some things you’ll need to know.

The race will begin at 7 a.m. (athletes should begin arriving around 5:30 a.m.) and should end by 1 p.m., with everything torn down by 3 pm.

The Transition (starting) Area will be in the parking lot of the Pines Village. The Swim will start from the Pines Marina and go right, then left towards the Sheriffs Tower.

The Bike route will start at the Transition Area and go around the lake to North Fork and then around the other side of the lake (Road 222) ending back at the Transition Area.

The Run will start at the Transition Area and go along North Shore Road (Road 432) to the parking lot of the Falls Beach (the International Distance Race will do this route twice).

There will be traffic delays with one-way traffic control going west on North Shore from about 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., but no road closures during the race. There will also be traffic delays getting in to the Pines Village from Road 274 from 5 a.m. to about noon.

Everyone is invited to have some fun at the BBQ & Blues Party starting at 10 a.m. in the Village at the start/finish line. The Bass Lake Lions Club will again be cooking up their delicious burgers and hotdogs.

Organizers are always looking for volunteers to direct the athletes, pass out water, traffic control and to cheer on the athletes. If you’re interested in participating, please contact Rhonda@Yosemitethisyear.com or 559-683-4636.

Visit Yosemite|Madera County (aka Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau) has again partnered with Jonathan Grinder, Tucson Racing — a professional triathlon producer. The event has undergone a name change to Bass Lake Yosemite Triathlon and has added a post-race Yosemite component to remind guests of Bass Lake’s proximity to this gorgeous national park in hopes they extend their trip and see all that the area has to offer.

Visit the Bass Lake Yosemite Triathlon website for information and registration options at www.BassLakeTri.com. They are also on Facebook and you can “like” them and keep up on current happenings.

For anyone wishing to participate in the race, there will be several options:

  • International Distance Triathlon which consists of a 1500 meters (1 mile) Swim; 40 kilometers (25 miles) Bike; and a 10 kilometers (6 mile) Run.
  • Sprint Triathlon which consists of 400 meters (1/4 mile) Swim; 20 kilometers (12 mile) Bike; and a 5 kilometers (3 mile) Run.
  • Bass Lake 5K (3 miles) – is a Poker & Go Fish Fun Run. Net proceeds will benefit the Yosemite Gateway Association of Realtor’s YHS Scholarship Fund and Yosemite High School Athletic Department.
