BASS LAKE — The 37th Annual Bass Lake Fishing Derby took place this past weekend under dark skies, and that didn’t seem to prevent excited people from having a good time.
Anglers like these were hoping to win a share of $55,000 worth of prize money by plucking tagged fish from the clear mountain lake on Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7. Many of them had their hopes fulfilled, though the two fish tagged at $10,000 and the one with a $5,000 tag remain un-caught.
“It was another successful derby,” says Michelle Miller of the Bass Lake Chamber of Commerce and Miller’s Landing Resort at Bass Lake.
“The fishermen were happy and we had lots of tagged fish turned in. The weather wasn’t perfect, but that didn’t stop anyone.”

- 29 fish tagged for $100
- 204 fish tagged for $20
- Total of 233
- Total payout $6980
