Bass Lake Annual Arts & Crafts Fair

For those of you who are like me, and love all the weekend activities going on this time of year, I have a great idea for the weekend of May 4, 5 & 6. Head out to Bass Lake for the Annual Arts & Crafts Fair. Admission is free, which is always a welcome bonus!

This event actually started 36 years ago in June, with additional dates being added over the years. Arts & Crafts Fair organizer, Mike Knapp, moved to Cambria after 30+ years in Bass Lake. He mentioned something about it being too warm here in the summer, and his needing to be in a cooler place – go figure.

Mike tells me that this year he is expecting 35 vendors who will provide a great variety of arts and crafts. There’ll be woodworkers, quilters, jewelry makers, leather crafters – just a huge variety of great stuff! We’ll see some of the folks we have seen in years past, but Mike says there will be lots of new vendors as well.

In case we get hungry while we’re perusing all of the fabulous craft items, we can munch on some kettle corn. Or for those of you who may not have a date that night, try some garlic fries. If you’re trying to make a good first impression, my advice might be to stick to the tri-tip or pulled pork sandwiches.

There will also be live bluegrass music by 3 great bands from 11am to 3pm –

Friday: The Smiley Mountain Band

Saturday: The Morgan Canyon Band

Sunday: The String Bandits

In case you have someone in your family who would rather fish, this weekend is also the 6th Annual Bass Lake Fishing Derby. Top three fish take $25,000 in prize money, which could fund a lot of shopping!

Mike and the gang will be back In June for the 36th Annual Bass Lake Arts & Crafts Fair. If you need more information from Mike about becoming a vendor, he says you can give him a call at 559-288-6614 or visit his website www.thecraftfair.org.
