OAKHURST — The beginning of a new school year can be exciting, filled with new clothes, new haircuts and school supplies. At this same time, there are families in our community that dread the new school year, wondering how they will afford all the costs.
The Women’s Ministry at Sierra Pines Church wants to help meet this need in the community and, specifically, help those families that cannot afford the extra costs of getting back to school, so they have decided to host a “Back to School Blessings” day.
“We will be providing free backpacks filled with school supplies like pencils, pencil sharpeners, folders, spiral notebooks crayons and glue sticks,” says group leader Trisha Beckstead.
“In addition, we will also have volunteer hairdressers offering free haircuts for kids. Our men’s ministry will barbecue hamburgers for a buck, and our prayer team will be there for anyone who would like prayer. We will also have a drawing for free groceries.”
This event will take place Sunday, Aug. 5 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Sierra Pines Church, located at 40855 Covey Court in Oakhurst. Organizers say this is open to the community for those who need a little help getting started off on the right foot.
