Auditions At Golden Chain Monday & Tuesday

OAKHURST – Auditions for “The Ladies of Tin Pan Alley” will be held Monday and Tuesday, July 29 and 30, from 6 – 9pm, at the Golden Chain Theatre, located at 42310 Highway 41 in Oakhurst.

This is a musical tribute to the music of 1900-1949, with a focus on the women composers and lyricists of the golden age of music publishing.

This original show, written and directed by Jennifer Piccolotti (I Can’t Believe That Didn’t Win A Tony) and James Mierkey (Musical Director at Sierra Pines Church), features strong vocalists, lively group dance numbers, and live musical accompaniment throughout the show.

There is a need for group singers as well as solo vocalists, and quite a few men’s roles as well, both singing and non-singing. The show will feature emotional ballads, high energy group numbers, and features a ladies a capella barbershop quartet.

Help is also needed in set painting, costuming and backstage assistance. The set designer will be Jason Turner, who has done truly amazing things with many of the sets this season and GCT is excited that he is going to bring old New York to our stage.

If you are looking for a musical outlet and are interested in joining this nostalgic and fabulously retro experience, they would love to see you at auditions.

Typically, auditions begin with a bit of paperwork and then each audition-er sings a prepared solo either with a CD track or with sheet music. An accompanist will be provided for you.

For this show, any song from the 30’s or 40’s would be great. Memorization is not mandatory. Next, there will be a short group dance lesson and you will learn the first few measures of a routine. For this show it will be a variation of the Charleston.

After you amaze yourself with how quickly you are catching on, you will have an opportunity to choose a character from the show and read a bit from the script. Coming away having had lighthearted moments and gaining many new friends is guaranteed.

A detailed rehearsal schedule will be given at auditions, but for lead roles, rehearsals will be Monday – Thursday, from 5 – 7 p.m. The show itself runs the last three weekends in November, on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

Any questions at all can be directed to Jennifer Piccolotti, 661-699-3792.
