Arrest Attempt Leads To Standoff

NORTH FORK – An arrest attempt at a residence near North Fork ended with a standoff between the suspect and deputies, that went on for several hours yesterday.

Madera County Sheriff’s deputies had taken a statement from a victim concerning a domestic violence incident, and responded to a home on Road 225 on Thursday, Feb. 5, to take the suspect into custody.

When deputies attempted to contact William Elias, 33, he slammed the door and refused to come outside. They eventually made contact with him by phone, and after negotiating for several hours, Elias finally agreed to surrender and was arrested without further incident.

Elias was transported to Madera County Department of Corrections and booked on charges of felony domestic violence and attempted murder, along with driving on a suspended license and failure to appear in court. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
