NORTH FORK — A North Fork man was taken into custody for DUI after crashing his pickup into a tree near Road 222 this afternoon.
Just after before 4 p.m. on Friday, June 3, Adam Pomona, 48, was westbound on Road 222 in a Ford F-250 approaching the turnoff to Auberry Road when, for unknown reasons, he turned left onto a private driveway, according to CHP at the scene.
He drove down the gravel drive but when the road turned right, he continued straight and went down over the hill where he crashed into a buckeye tree.
When property owners heard the noise they came out to investigate, then called 911.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched along with CHP, Cal Fire Engine 4254 and Madera County Station 11 firefighters. EMS and a SkyLife helicopter also responded, but the driver was reportedly not in need of medical attention. He was, however, arrested for driving while intoxicated after being tested at the scene, and was transported to the Madera County Department of Corrections.
The air ambulance circled town, then was released and returned to Fresno.
