Alert – Credit Card Skimmer Found In Mariposa

MARIPOSA – At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Apr. 18, Mariposa County Sheriff’s deputies located a credit card skimming device on Pump #3 at the Woodland Market gas station.

These types of devices are used by criminals to fraudulently acquire credit card information from cards inserted into the credit card slots on the outdoor gas pumps. Deputies believe the skimmer was put in place on or about Apr.11.

Deputies believe that only Pump #3 was compromised by the device. At this time the device has been removed and the pumps are functioning properly. Other local fuel vendors have been notified to check their pumps for illegal devices.

“This case is currently under investigation by our office,” says Sheriff Doug Binnewies. “We recommend that anyone who may have used credit/debit cards at the Woodland Market gas pumps contact our office and their financial institution.”

The Mariposa County Sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information or feel they may have been a victim of this crime to please contact Deputy William Atkinson at 209-966-3615.
