70th Annual Chowchilla Fair Starts Thursday

CHOWCHILLA – For those who love a good ol’ country fair, it’s not too long a trip to the valley for “Country Nights and Carnival Lights,” the theme for the 2016 Chowchilla Madera County Fair.

The excitement begins Thursday, May 19, and will run through Sunday, May 22. This year’s action packed entertainment will include bull riding, mutton busting, pro wrestling, kart racing, barrel racing, live entertainment and so much more.

Thursday evening in the grandstands there is bull riding, mutton busting, and barrel racing.

Friday’s grandstand event will be Sanders Motorsports Kart Racing. Support local youth and young-at-heart competitors as they race to take the checkered flag.

Saturday night in the grandstands and back by popular demand, get ready for some ground pounding action as highly modified trucks and tractors duel it out dragging a 40,000 lb. Terminator sled down a 300-foot-long track in hopes of earning a “full pull.”

Back again this year will be the Best Beard Competition on Saturday, May  at 2 p.m. on the Main Stage.

Sunday, Vendetta Pro Wrestling returns to the Chowchilla Fair with a Tag Team Main Event Match up featuring Vendetta Pro Wrestling heavyweight Champion Socal Crazy teaming with Mini Superstar Felinito vs. Former WWE superstar Ricardo Rodriguez with mini superstar Pequeno Halloween plus the Vendetta Vixens, Lucha Libre stars and much, much more.

Following Vendetta Pro Wrestling, Los Freddy’s — a popular Mexican ensemble — will sing all-time favorites and original romantic ballads along with grupera-style songs. Guests can anticipate a great concert featuring a compilation of their most popular songs.

Daily entertainment includes hypnotist Michael Mezmer, Magician Frank Thurston, Circus Imagination, and new this year Pirate Jack Spareribs and Firestryker.

Fair Admission will be $8 for ages 13 – 61, $5 for seniors 62 and older, children ages 6-12 are $5 and children 5 and under are free.

Friday, May 20th from noon – 4pm and Sunday May 22 from 3 – 6 p..m, receive free admission with the donation of three canned food items.

Kid’s day is Friday, May 20, when kids ages 12 and under receive free admission until 5 p.m. Parking is free all four days of the Fair.

Advanced discounts specials are now on sale until the opening of Fair. Discount specials include a one-day discount admission pass for $5 and a pre-sale carnival coupon for $18. Carnival coupons can be exchanged for an unlimited ride wristband or a book of 30 tickets.

Thursday, May 19, is buddy day; buy one regular price unlimited ride wristband, get one FREE! All advance discount specials end at the opening of Fair.
