53rd Annual Mid-Sierra Loggers Jamboree

The chips will be flying in North Fork this weekend as the Annual Mid-Sierra Loggers Jamboree returns to the exact center of California. As the mountains echo with the sounds of hot power saws, and the smell of newly cut wood puts us in mind of a bygone era, visitors and residents alike will be enjoying the action-packed competition of this very popular annual event, the highlight of the summer season for the community of North Fork.

The competition gets underway at the Recreation Center on Saturday, June 30th, at 10am with the Pro-Am Contest. Teams made up of one amateur and one person who has entered in a logging contest will compete in the Axe Throw, Choker Setting, Stock Power Saw and double Hand Bucking.

The day’s schedule also includes the Jackpot Working Saw Contest and the Horseshoe Pitching Contest, in memory of Tim Punkin and Joe Rogozienski. Admission for Saturday’s events is just $5.00, 12 years and older.

This is an event for the whole family. In addition to the logging events there will also be lets of vendor booths, featuring arts, crafts and delicious food.

At 5pm, the Grand Parade down North Fork’s Main Street will step off, followed at 6:00 by a BBQ and the Little Logger & Princess Coronations at the Town Hall.

Topping off an exciting day of competition will be the Wood Choppers Ball and the Jamboree Queen Coronation under the stars at the Rec Center, starting at 6:00pm. Tickets are $10.

Scott Marsh, owner of Slims Koffee Shak and president of the Chamber of Commerce, has taken on the very large task of organizing the Wood Chopper’s Ball. This year there will be four bands performing.

Sunday morning starts with the Lion’s Pancake Breakfast at the Town Hall, with gates opening at the Rec Center at 10am for more logging action. After the singing of the National Anthem at noon by local group Sugar Pine, the competion gets underway with Choker Setting. The day’s events will include Hand Chopping, the Axe Throw, both men’s and ladies divisions, Hot Power Saw, Double Hand Bucking, Tree Felling, Ladies Stock Power Saw, Log Birling and Stock Power Saw.
