Highway 41 was closed in both directions for about an hour and a half this afternoon following a 5 car accident just south of Road 207. The accident happened at 2:05 pm, and traffic was backed up for miles in both directions.
Three cars had come to a stop in the road for unknown reasons, causing a chain reaction when traffic following was unable to stop in time.
Three persons complaining of some pain were transported to Clovis Community as a precautionary measure, but there were no serious injuries.
California Highway Patrol units responded to the accident, along with the Madera County Sheriff’s Department, 2 fire engines, 2 ambulances and 3 tow trucks.
The scene was cleared and traffic began moving about 3:30 pm, but due to the huge backup, the CHP implemented traffic control at the intersection of Highway 41 and Road 200 until things began moving smoothly again.
