BASS LAKE — Runners and walkers alike are encouraged to participate in the 37th Smokey Bear Run/Walk. Taking place at the scenic Recreation Point in Bass Lake, this family-friendly event is open to people of all ages and abilities. Thus, making it a great way to enjoy the outdoors all while supporting a good cause. This year, we celebrate the life of Ken Takeuchi, who was the race director for many years.
Event Details
To begin, the event offers two racing options: a 10k run and a 2-mile walk/run. Additionally, both courses wind along Road 222, offering participants slightly rolling hills and breathtaking views of Bass Lake. Be aware, the race begins early, and Road 222 will be closing to traffic from 7:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. This is to ensure the safety of everyone participating.
Furthermore, proceeds from this year’s Smokey Bear Run/Walk will benefit the local community, supporting various programs and initiatives in the area.
Packet Pickup Information
In addition, guests can pick up their race packets ahead of time or on race day. There are two early pickup options:
- Thursday, September 26th: Fleet Feet Fresno from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M.
- Friday, September 27th: Claiborne, Lavoie, and Associates in Oakhurst from 1:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M.
Fortunately, for those unable to pick up their packets early, race-day pickup will be available at the event site starting at 7:15 A.M..
Honoring Ken Takeuchi
Last but not least, this year’s event is held in loving memory of Ken Takeuchi. In fact, Ken was the race director for many years and the founder of the Valley Runner of the Year series. Moreover, his contributions to the running community bring fond memories, and his presence will be missed at future Smokey Bear Runs.
