MADERA COUNTY — For two nights, Monday and Tuesday Apr. 1 – 2, the best elementary school spellers in the mountain area converged on Rivergold Elementary for the 2019 Eastern Madera County Regional Spelling Bee.
The Bee is comprised of all 1st place winners, grades K– 8th, from 11 different mountain elementary schools.
Retired Rivergold teacher, Holly Walter was the Wordmaster. She provided participants with each of the words to be spelled. Raymond Granite high school teacher, Duff McCartin worked as the official timer. YUSD Board Member Stacey Montalto and National University master teacher, Mary Englehart judged the events.
Sierra Telephone provided brand new books for each of the participants and Raley’s Supermarket provided special “bee” themed cupcakes.
