Yosemite Jazz Band Returns For 20th Season

OAKHURST – The Yosemite Jazz Band will be swinging into their 20th year entertaining diners on the patio at the Oakhurst Pizza Factory on Thursday, Apr. 30.

Every Thursday evening throughout the summer, this local favorite will perform from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., this year welcoming singer Jennifer Piccolotti and new standup bass player Daniel Green.

It all began in 1993 when The Yosemite Jazz Band established its roots in the mountain community of Oakhurst, Calif. Berl Howell, the band’s fearless leader, approached Ted Strauss and Jim Kirin about forming a traditional jazz band. Other local musicians came on board and it wasn’t long before the band was rolling.

In the summer of 1994, the newly formed band began its performances at the Oakhurst Pizza Factory, which has become an annual tradition. The band quickly gained a loyal following and many gigs ensued.

The band added more local musicians over the years, including Pat Mierkey, Jeff Gurule, James Mierkey, and Larry Vaccaro. These guys have a lot of fun performing for their audiences.

The band’s repertoire includes an entertaining blend of Dixieland jazz, early swing, gospel, and traditional jazz favorites.

The Yosemite Jazz Band performs for dances, county and state fairs, jazz festivals, weddings, funerals, parties, church events, grand openings, and many other functions. No matter what your function or event, an entertaining performance by the Yosemite Jazz Band is sure to please.

For more information, or to book the band for your special event, contact Berl Howell at 559-642-2221.
