Work Progresses On North Fork Verizon Cell Tower

NORTH FORK – Things are progressing on the new Verizon cell tower just outside the Cascadel Woods gate, but not fast enough for many residents.

When construction began in mid-April, the completion date was stated as about two months. So when two months came and went, we contacted Verizon for more detailed information about when the tower would go online.

The communication received from the company was that “the site is scheduled to be in-service later this summer.”

Branches for Cell Tower arriving 6-20-13On Thursday, a visit to the construction site found crews unloading the big branches that will adorn the tower, creating the illusion of a giant pine tree.

Cell service in the little town of North Fork and surrounding areas was described by many at the Board of Supervisors meeting a year ago when the conditional use permit was granted, as critical not only to the health and growth of the town, but to first responders and law enforcement in the execution of their duties.

Progress is being made, and the project is definitely moving forward. Residents can only wait and see when those bars on their Verizon phones will finally light up.
