Winter Weather Forecast For Mountains

MOUNTAIN AREA – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Sierra Nevada from Yosemite to Kings Canyon, from 5 a.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday, above 6,000 feet.

Travelers should expect blowing and drifting snow, with accumulations of 2 to 4 inches about 4,000 feet, 8 to 12 inches above 7,000 feet, and local accumulations of up to 14 inches along the crest of the Sierra.

Snow is forecast to begin late tonight, Monday, Apr. 6, with the heaviest downfall during the day on Tuesday, diminishing Tuesday night.

Visitors and outdoor recreationalists in Yosemite National Park and the Sierra National Forest should be prepared for snow and colder temperatures, possible limited visibilities, along with slick and icy roads.

Winds are expected to be 15 to 25 mph with gust over 55 mph over the higher terrain.
