Winding Fire Quickly Doused In Oakhurst

Winding incident firefighters staging in front of building July 30 2016 Gina ClugstonOAKHURST — Multiple engines and firefighters are currently on the scene of a commercial structure fire at Oakhurst Storage, located at 40820 Winding Way. The fire started in an office building for the storage company and no storage units were involved in this incident.

The fire was reported at 11:20 a.m.

As of now, ten engines, one water tender, thirty-five firefighters and two Battalion Chiefs are on scene, including resources from Madera County Fire, Cal Fire, Atwater City Fire and Merced.

Winding incident yellow truck July 30 2016 Gina ClugstonWhen the first engines arrived on scene, firefighters immediately checked through the building to make certain it was clear and no one was inside. One man on site said he had been working in the building until about 10 a.m. today, however, no one was reported to be inside when the fire started.

Firefighters went up on the roof and used a chainsaw and other equipment to break through the roof, while other crew members moved in and out of the building, pulling out furniture and office equipment in order to prevent any further damage, if possible, from water and smoke.

Firefighters were successful in keeping the flames from spreading to surrounding buildings or vegetation. The fire was contained at 12:09 p.m., with another two hours estimated for mop up.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
