Who Makes The Best Pizza In The Mountains?

Best Pizza In The MountainsOAKHURST – It’s a dough-down throwdown. Set aside some time soon for a perfect combo of fundraising, football and pizza, as once again, the community will “vote” on which restaurant bakes the most delicious slice in town.

Sierra Oakhurst Kiwanis and the Coarsegold PTO are sponsoring the annual “Best Pizza in Oakhurst” contest at the Community Center on Sunday, Jan. 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tickets are $10 in advance and can be purchased through Kiwani members and participating restaurants. Ready to throw their pizzas into the fire, figuratively speaking, are chefs from Oakhurst restaurants Di Cicco’s, Round Table, Me-N-Ed’s and Pizza Factory, along with their flour-crusted Coarsegold counterparts: Goldmine Pizza and Jalapenos Pizza.

Tickets at the door are $12. Each ticket holder receives a slice of pizza from each participating restaurant and ultimately it’s ticket holders who vote and decide on the best pizza. No-host beer and wine will be available, generously provided by South Gate Brewing Company and Idle Hour Winery.

Previous title holders include Me & Ed’s (2015) and Pizza Factory (2013 and 2014).

At stake are bragging rights and the opportunity to contribute to a pair of worthwhile causes. All the pizzas are donated, with proceeds going to Kiwanis and the Oakhurst Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Kiwanis will use the proceeds to fund scholarships for graduating seniors from Yosemite and Minarets high schools, along with donations to Children’s Hospital and other charitable causes.

Don’t worry about missing the playoff game, they’ll have it broadcasting on a big screen. Organizers have arranged for raffle prizes, as well as kid-friendly activities, so you can eat pizza, watch championship football and then tell your friends what a good thing you’ve done.
