Wasuma Book Fair Aims To Inspire Lifelong Readers

AHWAHNEE – Wasuma Elementary will host a Scholastic Book Fair beginning Friday, Mar. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funds raised will help purchase books for the media center, classroom libraries, children and their teachers.

Families, faculty, and the community are invited to attend this fun reading event that helps inspire children to become lifelong readers.The Book Fair Grand Opening will feature a special event, Wasuma Family Game Night. Start the evening off with a visit to the book fair which opens at 5 p.m., then check out the silent auction. The auction opens at 6 p.m., and closes promptly at 7:30 p.m.

There will be pizza and games, with all proceeds from game night going toward the 8th Grade Trip. Everyone is encouraged to come out and support Wasuma. Go Wildcats!

The Book Fair offers specially priced books and educational products, including popular series, award-winning titles, new releases, adult bestsellers, and other great reads from more than 100 publishers.

Kid reading bookBook Fair customers may also help the school build classroom libraries by purchasing books through the Classroom Wish List program. In addition, the Book Fair will feature the One for Books® program, where kids can share the thrill of reading by donating loose change to purchase books from the Book Fair for specific purposes, such as the school library, kids who can’t buy a book, etc.

Scholastic matches monetary donations with a donation of up to one million books, which go to national non-profit organizations dedicated to helping families in need, such as the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc., and Kids In Need Foundation.

The Book Fair will be open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mar. 11 -14, and 7:30 a.m. to noon on Mar. 15.

When attending the Book Fair, all visitors must check in at the front office. The book fair is open to the community during non-school hours only from 7:30 – 8 a.m. daily, and 2:35 – 3 p.m. M-Th. and during the opening night event, Friday, Mar. 8 from 5 – 7 p.m.
