Vehicle Fire Briefly Closes Road 426

OAKHURST — Just before 5 p.m. yesterday crews were called out to reports of a vehicle fire on Road 426 that forced the temporary closure of the roadway in both directions.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames near Coyote Ridge Road.

With fire threatening to spread into surrounding vegetation, Road 426 was closed at about 5:15 p.m., as firefighters worked to keep the flames contained to the vehicle.

The fire was controlled by 5:30 p.m. and the road was reopened five minutes later.

The cause of the fire is reported as unknown mechanical issues. The car apparently broke down and the driver pulled over as the vehicle caught fire, according to CHP.
