MADERA COUNTY — Firefighters are on scene of a vegetation fire burning along Road 209 near Road 406.
At 1:22 p.m., seven engines, two ground crews, one water tender and a dozer were dispatched to the area near 40988 Oakwood Road, west of Highway 41 and south of Road 200.
The Battion Chief first on scene reported the fire burning on the west side of Road 209 at approximately 20 acres with a moderate rate of spread.
Air attack was overhead at about 1:42 p.m., and one helicopter and four air tankers are en route. Three additional water tenders were also called up.
Reports are that several structures are in the path of the fire, and resources are focusing on protecting those homes.
At 2 p.m., the fire jumped Road 209 headed toward Highway 41, and that spot is now estimated at 6 to 7 acres.
At 2:26 p.m. PCFs from stations 10, 11, 14, 16 and 18 were called up to staff up for cover assignments with so many resources assigned to the Oakwood incident.
At 2:45 p.m., four additional Type 3 engines were dispatched to the fire. There are also two helicopters working the incident.
Roads 208 and 209 are closed at Highway 41, and Road 209 is closed at Road 406.
