Update On The Oakwood Fire

MADERA COUNTY — As firefighters continue to strengthen firelines and work hot spots in the interior of the Oakwood Fire, Cal Fire has updated the estimated acreage to 1,450 acres with 75 percent containment.

The Incident Commander has received word from the Emergency Command Center that there is a weather system moving in that will likely bring wind and rain to the burn area, and night crews are preparing for stormy weather.

The fire started yesterday just before 1:30 p.m. and forced the closure of Highway 41 between Road 200 and Highway 145 for approximately 14 hours.

No structures were lost in the wind-driven vegetation fire that started west of Highway 41 near the intersection of Roads 209 and 406.

All roadways in the area of the fire are open, though motorists should be aware of emergency vehicles.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
