Update On The Ben Fire Saturday 8 AM

MARIPOSA — The Ben fire, burning in the Mormon Bar area of Mariposa County, is now 80 percent contained and is still holding at 630 acres.

Ben Hur Road at Buckeye, and Ben Hur Road at the entrance to the Quick Ranch remain open to residents only.

There are currently 40 engines, 12 crews and 5 water tenders assigned to the incident.

Forward progress has been stopped. Fire suppression resources continue to construct and improve containment lines around the fire’s perimeter.

No injuries have reported either to firefighters or the public.

An Incident Command Post has been set up at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds.

The Ben Fire was reported just before 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, near 3081 Ben Hur Road.

No structures have been threatened, and no evacuations were ordered.

The fire is burning in grass and oak woodland.

Cal Fire, Mariposa County Fire, Mariposa County Sheriff, PG&E, California Conservation Corps and CHP are the cooperating agencies.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
