Two Public Meetings In Raymond This Week

RAYMOND — There will be two public meetings in Raymond this week, one on Tuesday, Feb. 21 and a second on Thursday, Feb. 23.

On Tuesday, the campaign committee, Citizens, Firefighters, & Deputies for Measure L is holding a public safety forum at the Leaders for Christ Training Center at 6:30 p.m., to discuss the proposed Madera County Public Safety Sales Tax, titled Measure L, scheduled for a special election on Mar. 7.

The forum will include speakers who represent citizens, Madera County firefighters and sheriff’s deputies. There will be an opportunity for residents to have their questions answered about the proposed dedicated tax, which will fund the Madera County Fire Department and allow for the hiring of nine new deputies at the Sheriff’s Office.

On Thursday, Tom Wheeler will host the next in his series of Town Hall meetings from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Raymond-Knowles Elementary School Cafeteria.

Of immediate interest to residents will be a presentation on Measure L. Georgiena Vivian of VRPA Technologies will talk about the proposed ordinance and answer questions.

Also on the agenda is JoAnn Evans, Community Service Officer for the Madera County Sheriff’s Office, who will talk about the Neighborhood Watch program. There will also be an update on issues of interest from the Sheriff’s Office.

Kassy Chauhan of the California State Water Resources Board will also make a presentation, and there will be discussion about local road maintenance by the Public Works Department.

For those who are unable to attend this Town Hall meeting, Supervisor Wheeler will be hosting another meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at The Blue Heron, 30250 Yosemite Springs Parkway in Yosemite Lakes Park, Coarsegold.

The Raymond-Knowles Elementary School is located at 31828 Road 600 in Raymond.
