Town Hall Will Address Madera Co. Proposed Public Safety Tax

OAKHURST — District 5 Supervisor Tom Wheeler will host his first Town Hall meeting of the new year at the Oakhurst Community Center on Thursday, Jan. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m.

On March 7, the County will hold a special election allowing voters to have their say on Measure L, the proposed Public Safety Tax aimed at funding the Madera County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office. Georgiena Vivian of VRPA Technologies, Inc., will outline the expenditure plan and answer questions about the measure.

Also on the agenda is an update on the tree mortality situation in the Central Sierra by representatives from Cal Fire, PG&E, the U.S. Forest Service, Caltrans, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

A panel of health care professionals in the area will talk about services available to residents, and Matt Treber, Department of Community and Economic Development, and Jared Carter from the Public Works Department will also make presentations.

As always, there will be time for questions and answers on issues of concern to county residents.
