Team TaTa Avengers Race For The Cure

Submitted by Tina Wynne, owner of A Village Hair & Nails and Team Captain for the TaTa Avengers

COARSEGOLD — In August of 2012, a client and friend of mine asked if I’d like to to help co-captain a team for Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, held every year at Fresno State in October. To my surprise that would spark a fuse that is still burning bright: the team “TaTa Avengers” was born. TaTa Avengers is Race team with quiet fire, dedicated to raising money and spreading awareness about breast health and cancer research.

With that, we began to gather funds and opened a door for conversation I never expected. We built friendships and a Team. We now have 24 members and growing. We produced a Team that can’t wait for the 2013 race to start!

Komen Race for the Cure is a 5k (3.2 miles) walk/race held at Fresno State College on Oct. 26. It helps fund many programs locally, and 75% of all funds stay local. They fund free mammograms, treatment help, and they do an amazing job of honoring survivors, and those battling this disease.

For the TaTa Avengers, Sheila Moreno is a team member makes us excited to continue our volunteer efforts. She inspires us to grow the team and helps to keep me steering the ship. She has ideas to fuel the ship and the energy to keep it steady.

This year Sheila pioneered a raffle ticket fundraiser that has been so fun! Sheila went to many local businesses in hopes they would donate anything from gift certificates to a one night stay at the Pines Resort at Bass Lake. She requested donations of local gift certificates for meals, a cabin at the KOA in Coarsegold and more.

The drawing for winning tickets will be held by our team on Race Day.

She has worked hard and I really appreciate her and her generous customers. I know that when we finish the 5k Walk she will already be asking about plans for next year. I love to see the excitement and flame she brings to this team.

Another team member, Teri Sitton helped organize a 50/50 drawing in which we raised over $300 at the Madera Speedway.

Gina Thompson, Cris DeHart and other Team members are doing their part to raise funds for the Cure.
