Suspect In Officer Involved Shooting Faces Attempted Murder Charges

MADERA COUNTY – The Madera County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the officer involved shooting that occurred on Feb. 24 in the area of Avenue 9 and Road 38.

On Feb. 24, at approximately 7:26 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers initiated a vehicle stop for speeding on Highway 152.

The vehicle failed to yield, increased its speed, and continued traveling southbound on Highway 99, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle exited the highway at Avenue 9. When the vehicle came to a stop, a male subject exited the vehicle with a knife in his hand.

CHP officers deployed a Taser to restrain the subject, says the Sheriff’s Office, but it had no effect. The subject then charged officers with the knife, resulting in officers discharging their firearms, striking the subject several times.

The suspect has been identified as Carlos Solis, 24, of Redwood City. Solis remains in a Fresno area hospital recovering from his injuries. He is in stable condition.

There were no injuries to any of the officers.

Upon his release from the hospital, Solis will be formally booked into Madera County Department of Corrections for attempted murder of a peace officer.
