Sunrise Rotary Honors Outstanding Students

AHWAHNEE – This morning the Oakhurst Sierra Sunrise Rotary Club honored two outstanding local students.

For several years now, on a monthly basis, the club has recognized two outstanding students for their academic and extra curricular achievements. This month the club honored Hanna Wimer from Rivergold School and Jayda Grossi from Yosemite High School.Each student along with their parents and teachers, were invited to join the club for breakfast at River Creek Golf Course to receive their awards and have a chance to witness Rotary in action.

Cindy Simons Gina Hanson Sedor Hanna Wimer and Ed VanHooseHanna Wimer was accompanied by her mother Ann as well as Rivergold principle Cindy Simons and teacher Gina Hanson-Sedor. Both Simons and Hanson spoke of Hanna’s leadership qualities and her commitment to her studies, which is borne out by the fact that she is an “A” student.

Jayda Grossi joined the meeting this morning with her parents, Joe and Misty, and Ag Department faculty member Michelle Wise. Even as a sophomore at Yosemite High School Jayna has set herself apart by her hard work and dedication to the FFA and Ag studies at Yosemite High School.

After speaking about some of Jayda’s accomplishments, Wise thanked the club for their ongoing support of the FFA program through student loans to purchase animals.

Each student is awarded a certificate from the club and each receives a $50 gift card from Yosemite Bank.

The Oakhurst Sierra Sunrise Rotary Club wants to congratulate Hanna and Jayda and thank Yosemite Bank for their continued support.
