Soroptimists Honor Local Women Who Make A Difference

OAKHURST — Soroptimist International of The Sierras held their annual “Make A Difference for Women” Awards Recognition Luncheon at El Cid Mexican Cuisine on Thursday, Apr. 20.

Three women were chosen to receive the “Live Your Dream” scholarship award in 2017 — Susan Burtnett, Amber Phillips and Amanda Johnson.

The awards are given to women who are striving to obtain skills and education to improve their employment status and standard of living for themselves and their families.

Each will receive a cash award of $1,000 plus a $100 gift card to use for gasoline for travel. The cash awards come from Soroptimist fundraiser programs that are held throughout the year.

“This annual luncheon held each year on the third Thursday in April is an important part of our local club and mission statement where we inspire and create opportunities to transform the lives of women with over $3,000 in scholarship monies,” said Joelle V. Leder, Live Your Dream Program Chair and President Elect of Soroptimist of The Sierras. “This money is raised at our two Soup and Salad Luncheon events and it is such a joy to see the difference this makes in the individuals in our local community.”
