Soroptimist Soup And Salad Fall Luncheon

soroptimists-soup-and-salad-2016-octOAKHURST – Members of the service group Soroptimist International of the Sierras invite the community to attend their Fall Soup & Salad Luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Oakhurst Community Center.

Tickets are available for $15 per person at Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce, Oakhurst Giftworks, and from Soroptimist members.

The philanthropic organization invites guests to “enjoy a relaxing lunch with friends,” with the menu including an array of delicious, homemade soups and a traditional salad bar with toppings galore. Rolls, beverage and dessert are also included with the meal. With the luncheon, Soroptimists run an abundant, well-organized raffle, beginning at 1 p.m., featuring tickets to major theme parks and local attractions among the great offerings.

The organization offers a big thanks to their corporate sponsors, including Yosemite Brokerage, Mark Wallo Pump Service and Sierra Telephone.

Soroptimist International’s motto is “best for women,” and the mission statement is “to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.”

With its two annual luncheons, Soroptimist of the Sierras support The Boys & Girls Club of Oakhurst, Children’s Museum of the Sierra, Eastern Madera County SPCA, Fresno Flats Historical Village & Park, Helping Hands Pregnancy & Parenting Center, Jr. High Awards, Madera County Academic Decathlon, Madera County Victim Services, Minarets High School Scholarships, Oakhurst Community Center, Oakhurst Community Living Center, Oakhurst River Parkway, YHS Pitman Awards, YHS Scholarships, YHS Sober Grad, and the “Live Your Dream” Award, a grant for furthering education.

Service projects include scholarships for local high schools, support for women and children who are victims of domestic violence, cancer awareness with support of Relay For Life, and the new “Dream it, Be it” program for high school students which began in 2016.

The Sierra Chapter of Soroptimist International was established in Oakhurst in 1968. They remain dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls locally and throughout the world, meeting twice a month on Thursdays, for luncheon meetings.
