OAKHURST – Soroptimist International of the Sierras is hosting a career support conference for high school girls in grades 9 through 12, on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017.
Registration is from 8 to 9 a.m. and the program begins immediately afterward. Breakfast and lunch will be served. This event is free to those attending, and space is limited.
The one-day conference is being held at the Oakhurst Community Center and will focus on career opportunities, fun activities, and videos to help educate girls on what they can accomplish and in hopes of raising their self-esteem. Each girl will receive a gift bag upon arrival and prizes will be awarded throughout the day.
There will be speakers talking about their achievements, goals, and the obstacles they overcame for their chosen careers. In addition to free continental breakfast and lunch, there will be fun projects to create, including a session on cupcake decorating by professional baker Laura Zabicki of Sweet Dreams Cakery.
A survey was completed by Soroptimist International of the Americas with girls from 22 countries around the world; results showed that girls want a quality education, access to mentors, opportunities, financial help and to feel safe.
