Some Evacuations Lifted For Goose Fire

PRATHER — Firefighters held the line last night on the Goose Fire, which was reported this morning at 2,020 acres, the same estimate given last evening.

The fire is now 30 percent contained. Damage assessment teams are in the area conducting evaluations, and power companies are conducting infrastructure assessment for the feasibility of re-energizing the western portion.

Five structures have been destroyed, including three homes and two outbuildings. About 400 structures are threatened.

There was some increased fire activity yesterday with some windy conditions. Containment levels are progressing slowly as firefighters are dealing with heavy fuels and extremely dry vegetation which has not burned since the early 1960’s.

There are currently 1,625 personnel assigned to the incident, including 140 engines, 44 crews, 11 helicopters, 3 air tankers, 18 dozers and 27 water tenders.
