Slims Koffee Shak

Every time I want to get together for a quick business meeting in North Fork, the response is invariably, “Let’s meet at Slim’s.”

Slim’s Koffee Shak sits smack in the middle of the little village of North Fork, and has become the gathering place for locals, and a welcome stop for visitors passing through on the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway. The Shak can claim the distinction of being the only coffee shop in the Exact Center of California.

Scott Marsh opened for business on March 5, 2011, and has created a busy hub in the center of this mountain town. Referred to variously by locals as “The Shak,” or “Slim’s,” no matter what you call it, everybody eventually finds their way there.

Owned and operated by locals, Slim’s is a community oriented business. “We will be donating 10% of our profits to our in-house Community Development Fund. With 10% of our art sales and a percentage of our tips every day going into the kitty, have raised about $500 to date,” says Scott.

The motto at Slim’s is “hospitality first, coffee second.” All guests are invited to settle in and hang out for a bit. Try their wonderful Shanti herbal tea and accompany it with the Shak Salad which has locally grown spinach, diced onions and tomatoes, blue cheese crumbles, pine nuts, dried cranberries, sprinkled with our special seasoning, drizzled with balsamic vinegar and roasted garlic oil and finally, topped with locally grown diced apple.

Or go rustic and enjoy the North Fork Coffee black, with a savory Shak Bagel. That’s an everything bagel toasted just on the insides, smeared with cream cheese, topped with onion and tomato slices, sprinkled with our special seasoning and drizzled with roasted garlic oil. Slim’s Koffee Shak serves locally roasted organic coffee that is Rain Forest Friendly, Shade Grown and Direct Buy from the farmers. They also offer specialty coffee drinks and exotic loose leaf teas, along with deli sandwiches to order, salads, hummus, croissants, bagels and more.

Scott is nothing if not totally dedicated to supporting his local community. “We strive for all things local such as the produce, fruit, coffee, art and everything else that we can.” The Shak also showcases work done by local artists and serves as a local art gallery to foster and inspire creativity. There is free WIFI, computer, satellite TV, music, games, library and locals to chat with.

On Friday nights throughout the summer, Scott and his crew are joined by Smokey’s Diner and the North Fork Dance Club for Friday Night Street Parties. Live Music and open mics make for a festive evening, so bring your own chair or share a hay bale with your neighbor. And be on the lookout for North Fork Nights again this summer.

“We invite you to our local hangout where you can make yourself at home and get a taste of what the mountain locals do.” The Shak Crew

Pet Friendly Notes

Slim’s Koffee Shak is named after a Miniature Dashund, Panhandle Slim. Slim got his name from an ol’ corduroy jacket that owner Scott O’Brian Marsh, wore as a party jacket in his college days. Slim grew up on a college campus visiting local bars and as he got older, Slim started hanging out at coffee shops in North Beach, San Francisco. There, he continued his reputation as a kool kat and now finds himself at his own Koffee Shak in the amazing village of North Fork, California.

Pets are welcome on the front patio where they can lounge with a bowl of water and chat with Slim and other visiting dogs.
