Sleepy Driver Crashes Off Highway 41

O’NEALS — For the second time today, a wreck that ended with a totaled vehicle resulted in only minor injuries to the driver.

Just after 1:30 p.m., a 61-year-old Oakhurst woman was northbound on Highway 41 just past Road 200 in a 2008 Honda Pilot, when she fell asleep, according to CHP at scene.

When she found herself drifting off the right shoulder of the road, she over-corrected back to the left and crossed into the southbound lane. She then steered the SUV back to the right, where it went off the right shoulder of the road, crashing through a barbed wire fence and across a large boulder field, finally coming to rest on its wheels some 60 feet down in a pasture.

The driver reportedly suffered only minor injuries and declined to be transported for medical treatment.

One-lane traffic control was put in place for over an hour as the scene was cleared, and traffic was backed up for over a mile in both directions.

There were no other occupants in the SUV, and no other vehicles were involved. The driver was able to walk away from the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
